ScholarSide

Turn a pile of papers into a reading plan.

ScholarSide is a focused reading system for researchers and students: decide what to read, how deeply, and capture what you learned. It runs entirely on your device — no account, no ads, no tracking.

Getting started

AI assist (optional)

ScholarSide can draft summaries, structured notes, and reading guides with Claude — but only if you choose to connect your own Anthropic API key. Go to Settings → AI assist and paste your key (get one at console.anthropic.com).

Your key is stored in the device Keychain and is used only to call Claude directly from your device. AI usage is billed to your own Anthropic account. Every AI result is an editable draft that sits beside your own notes — it never replaces them. The app is fully functional without a key.

FAQ

Where is my data stored?
On your device. ScholarSide has no servers and no account. Your library is included in your normal device/iCloud backup if you have one enabled.
Do I need an API key to use the app?
No. Importing, triage, reading modes, notes, projects, review, and export all work with no key. AI assist is the only feature that needs one, and it's your own key.
What gets sent over the network?
Only what you trigger: an arXiv ID or DOI when you import (to fetch metadata from arXiv and CrossRef), a PDF download when you request one, and — if you use AI assist — the paper text and your related notes to Anthropic. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I get my notes out?
Any paper's menu exports notes to Markdown, and Settings exports your whole library to BibTeX. Use the standard share sheet.
The metadata fetch failed.
Check your connection, or add the paper manually — you can always fill in the fields yourself and attach the PDF.
